Fabamaq’s Team Building: Aloha spirit meets company culture
Fabamaq’s Aloha Team Building was a powerful expression of what makes our culture unique as a tech company focused on casino game development. On July 4th, our Gamers gathered for an afternoon designed to connect, celebrate and reflect on our shared values with a tropical twist.
More than a fun gathering, the event was a moment to live our culture in practice. Inspired by the Hawaiian spirit of welcome and togetherness, the Aloha theme set the tone for a relaxed yet meaningful team experience. Each activity was designed to lower barriers, foster collaboration, and turn shared moments into real cultural impact.
Culture in practice: the meaning behind each moment
Rather than listing activities for entertainment alone, the Aloha afternoon was built with purpose. Here’s how we created space for collaboration, creativity and connection:
- Selfie Bingo: Encouraged Gamers to interact with people outside their usual teams. The goal was to complete the bingo card by taking selfies with colleagues, especially those from different teams. A fun way to promote cross-functional bonding and unexpected conversations.
- Surfboard painting: Teams decorated wooden surfboards using various materials and creative techniques. Each board became part of the event's decoration, symbolising co-creation and encouraging self-expression through teamwork.
- Themed games: From beer pong to the cup pyramid knock-down challenge, these lighthearted competitions brought out everyone’s playful side. We swapped our usual casino reels for classic games because in a gaming company like Fabamaq, team building has to include some real-life game time.
- Mechanical surf simulator: Added thrill and laughter to the event, inviting Gamers to test their balance in full Aloha style.
- Live music and DJ set: A ukulele performance by Jerry Springle set the mood for reflection and shared joy. A DJ kept the good vibes going throughout the afternoon, keeping energy levels high and the soundtrack fresh.

Each of these moments were a demonstration of our core values at play. If you want to learn more about our software-house based in Porto, check out this article about FMQ’s work culture and employee benefits.
How we live our core values at Fabamaq
At the heart of every team building is a foundation of purpose. At Fabamaq, that means living our values: proximity, sharing, commitment, boldness and adaptability.
During the Aloha Team Building, these values showed up in real time:
- Creating space for open communication and authentic connection
- Inspiring informal leadership and initiative across teams
- Encouraging creativity and play as tools for problem-solving
- Strengthening a shared identity and collective mission
- Reinforcing a sense of belonging in our tech and gaming community
These outcomes aren’t side effects. They’re why we invest in moments like this.

Why team culture matters in a tech company
Culture is not a background element. In high-performance tech environments, it’s the engine. While tools and processes evolve rapidly, it’s people that drive long-term success.
Team building activities are sometimes seen as perks, but research in organizational psychology shows they play a strategic role in company performance. According to Harvard Business Review, companies that actively invest in engagement and internal communication report higher productivity, stronger collaboration and better retention.
At Fabamaq, we believe culture isn’t something you have, it’s something you do. The Aloha Team Building was one of those intentional moments that shape who we are and who we’re becoming.
