Game Changers: From Architect to Software Engineer – Pedro Tamagnini
At Fabamaq, we celebrate transformation stories that break professional boundaries. In the second edition of our Game Changers series, we introduce Pedro Tamagnini, who, after nearly a decade in architecture, found a new passion in software development, joining one of Portugal's leading tech companies.
From Architecture to Software Development
My name is Pedro Tamagnini, I’m 34 years old, and I decided to transform my career, transitioning from architecture to software development. Today, I am part of Fabamaq, a software house specializing in casino game development based in Porto, where I found the perfect opportunity to grow and innovate.
After completing my master’s degree in Architecture, I dedicated nearly 10 years to this profession that had always fascinated me. During that time, I worked on several challenging projects, which allowed me to develop an analytical and creative mindset and meticulous attention to detail. However, working conditions in Portugal did not meet my expectations for financial stability and quality of life, leading me to reflect on my professional future.
Transitioning to the tech industry
Technology and its transformative potential always intrigued me. With its dynamism and opportunities, the tech industry seemed like the right path forward. I decided to invest in solid training in software development, facing the natural fears of starting over in a completely new field. With determination and the support of my family and friends, I embarked on this new journey, motivated by the possibility of contributing to innovative solutions and achieving greater professional fulfillment.
The challenges of career redefinition
Starting over is never easy. My biggest fear was beginning from scratch, learning quickly, and finding opportunities in the job market. However, my experience in architecture gave me valuable skills, such as the ability to solve problems creatively, attention to detail, and teamwork. These traits proved crucial in adapting to software development. Additionally, the specialized training I pursued provided me with the technical foundation necessary to succeed in this new field.
My integration at Fabamaq
Joining Fabamaq meant entering a casino game development software house with a people-oriented culture and a welcoming, collaborative environment. The values of Proximity, Audacity, Sharing, Adaptability, and Commitment are deeply embedded in the company’s DNA and daily routines, reflecting its dedication to employee well-being.
I was surprised by the dynamism of the tech industry and the innovative atmosphere of the company. I also believe my unique perspective brings value to the team, introducing different approaches to problem-solving and contributing to the development of disruptive solutions.
Advice for career changers
Don’t be afraid to start over! If you’re considering a transition to the tech industry, this is my advice. Invest in quality training, be persistent, and trust your potential. Fear is natural, but don’t let it stop you from taking the next step. With planning and courage, the change can be incredibly rewarding, offering personal and professional growth in a constantly evolving field.
New perspectives
The tech industry has brought me stability and professional fulfillment, something I had always been looking for. Being part of Fabamaq means being in an environment of constant learning, innovation, and collaboration. I feel proud to be part of a talented and diverse team, where I can make meaningful contributions and continue to grow in line with the company’s values.
A journey of motivation and determination
Throughout this transition, I identified the key factors that were critical to my successful adaptation at Fabamaq, making the process more effective and enriching:
- Motivation: The need to achieve financial stability drove me to explore the opportunities offered by the tech industry. This personal goal gave me the focus needed to start over.
- Determination: Facing the fear of venturing into a completely new field and quickly acquiring essential technical skills were significant challenges. However, I tackled them with resilience and determination, always keeping the end goal in mind.
- Strategy:
- Specialized Training: Investing in technical courses was essential to build the foundational skills required for software development.
- Support Network: The unconditional support of my family and friends was crucial, helping me persevere through challenging moments.
- Transferable Skills: My experience in architecture, which developed my analytical thinking and teamwork capabilities, made it easier to transition as a Software Engineer.
Being part of Fabamaq as a Software Engineer has been a transformative experience. This opportunity has allowed me to bring a fresh perspective, enriching projects and team dynamics. My journey demonstrates that with determination and support, it’s possible to redefine your career and achieve the professional fulfillment you desire.
